On-Grid Solar Systems for Home: Prices, Subsidy, ROI & How They Work

About Bainsun Energy

At Bainsun Energy, we’re on a mission to make clean power accessible to every home. Since our inception, we’ve partnered with thousands of households, designing and installing on-grid solar rooftop systems that cut electricity bills, reduce carbon footprints and require zero maintenance from Day 1. Our turnkey service includes site survey, system design, premium components, installation, net-metering support and five-year maintenance.

What Is an On-Grid Solar System?

An on-grid (grid-tied) solar system connects your rooftop panels directly to your local utility network. During daylight hours, panels generate DC power, which your inverter converts to AC. Your home uses this clean energy first. Any surplus automatically flows into the grid via a bidirectional (net-metering) meter, earning you credits. At night or on cloudy days, you draw back from the grid as needed.

Key Components

1. Solar Panels
  • High-efficiency monocrystalline modules
  • Positioned for maximum sun exposure
2. Solar Inverter
  • Converts DC into AC
  • Includes anti-islanding protection
3. Mounting Structures
  • Galvanized, corrosion-resistant frames
  • Wind resistant up to 180 km/hr
4. Bidirectional (Net-Metering) Meter
  • Tracks both exported & imported energy
  • Ensures billing only for net usage
5. Cabling & Safety Accessories
  • Includes combiner boxes, MC4 connectors
  • Includes surge protection & earthing strips

System Sizes & Estimated Generation

System Size Avg. Daily Output Avg. Annual Output
1 kW~4 kWh~1,440 kWh
2 kW~8 kWh~2,880 kWh
3 kW~12 kWh~4,320 kWh
5 kW~20 kWh~7,200 kWh
10 kW~40 kWh~14,400 kWh

*Actual output varies by location, tilt angle, and weather.

Pricing & Government Subsidy

Pricing & Government Subsidy

  • System Cost: ₹60,000–₹70,000 per kW (before subsidy)
  • Subsidy:
    • 1–2 kW: ₹30,000–₹60,000
    • 2–3 kW: Up to ₹78,000
    • Above 3 kW: Capped at ₹78,000
  • Final Cost (Post-Subsidy): As low as ₹20,000 per kW*

*Depends on equipment, structure, and location.

Return on Investment (ROI)

Return on Investment (ROI)

  • Break-Even Period: 3–5 years
  • Annual Savings (5 kW):
    • ~7,000 kWh/year × ₹8/unit = ~₹56,000
  • Long-Term Benefits: Over 20 years of free electricity

Limitation: Grid Outages

During a grid failure, on-grid systems shut down automatically for technician safety (anti-islanding). If uninterrupted power during outages is critical, consider a hybrid solar system with battery backup.

Frequently asked questions

Q1.How is net-metering billed?

Your export/import units are reconciled monthly excess credits offset your consumption charges.

Q2.Can I expand my on-grid system later?

Yes. Modular design lets you add panels or upgrade inverters easily.

Q3.Do I need a special roof?

No—our lightweight mounting structures work on most flat or pitched roofs, metal or concrete.

Q4.What’s the lifespan of the system?

  • Panels: 25 years (warranty)
  • Inverters: 10 years (extendable)
  • Structures & wiring: 20 + years
